DAVID  SMITH  SHIELDS  age  58  of  Knoxville,  died  Wednesday  March  27,  2013  at  his  home.

David  is  preceded  in  death  by  his   parents  John  William  (Bill)  Shields,  Sr.  and  Obera  Smith  Shields,  sons  Jeremy  David  Shields  and  William  Jess  Shields.

Survived  by  sisters  Elsie  (Burton)  Gaston,  Rossville,  Sallie  (Lamar)  McWhortor,  Rome,  Joyce  (Lloyd)  Wright,  New  Market,  TN,  Diann  Shields  Bell,  Ringgold,  brothers  John  William  Shields,  Jr.  Rock  Spring,  Lebron  (Cooter)  (Darlene)  Shields,  Vero  Beach,  FL,  Don  (Amelia)  Shields,  Ringgold,  Belove  Companion   Valerie  Johnson,  Knoxville,  and  her  children,  Jean  Marie  (Matt)  Sowder,  and  her  children  Emma  and  Anna  Sowder,  Indiana,  Mary  Jane  (Gregg)  Wildenburg,   and  her  children  Harper  and  Elliott  Wildeenburg,  Cambridge,  Massachusetts, and  the  mother  of  his  children  Vickie  Thomas  Shields,  Knoxville,    several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Funeral  from  the  Wallis  Memorial  Chapel  Saturday  at  4:00  P. M.  Service  conducted  by  Minister  Aaron  Pope  and  Elder  Don  Shields.

Pallbearers  are  nephews.

Interment  in  Rock  Spring  Cemetery.

The  family  will  receive  friends  at  the  Funeral  Home  Saturday  from  12:00  Noon  to  funeral  time.

In  lieu  of  flowers  memorials  to  Cystic  Fibrosis  Foundation.

John B. Sampley Jr; Visitation Friday 3/29 from 6-8pm at the funeral home; Service Saturday 3/30 at 10am in the funeral home chapel

John B. Sampley, 61, of Kingsport, Tn, formerly of Chattanooga, and LaFayette, Ga.  passed away Tuesday, March 26th at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport.

Born in Chattanooga, Tn on December 14th, 1952, John was a member of the Fairview Batist Church in LaFayette, Ga. and a member of the  International Brotherhood of the Electrical Workers Local 175 traveling all over the United States employed as an electrician.

Preceded in death by his parents John B. Sampley, Sr. and Sara Jane Sparks Sampley.

John made many friends through his travels and met the love of his life Alymira Sue Ford from Kingsport, Tn, who was his wife, friend and caregiver to the end.

Also surviving John are sons Damon,  Aiden and  daughter Dana of LaFayette, one grandson Cameron Sampley of Chatsworth, two granddaughters Shelby and Kalie Bulaware of LaFayette, Ga one brother Dr. Bob Sampley (Betty) of Ringgold, Ga. sister Sue McCurley (Travis) Altoona, Al.

Two special nieces, Lisa Sampley, and Sonya Runyon from Ringgold, Ga, one special nephew, John Perry of LaFayette, three great nieces and two great nephews also survive John.

Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel Saturday at 10:00 A.M. Service by Rev. Randy Avans.

Interment in the LaFayette Memory Gardens.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Marie Griggs Reed; Visitation Monday 3/25 from 5-7pm at the funeral home; Service Tuesday 3/26 at 2pm in the funeral home chapel


MRS.  MARIE  KATHLEEN  GRIGGS  REED,  age,  93,  passed  away March 23, 2013  at  her  home  in  Rock  Spring,  Ga.  After  a  courageous  battle  trying  to  recover  from  a  fall,  breaking  her  hip  in  2008.

Marie  attended  schools  at  the  Christian  Chapel  in  the  Natchez-Wildersville,  TN.,  area  of  Henderson  County,  and  was  baptized  into  The  Church  of  Christ  at  the  Bayou,  Gibson  County,  in  Steele,  Missouri  and  attended  many  churches  of  Christ  in   Tennessee,  Missouri,  and  Georgia.  She  is  a  member  of  both  The  Rock  Spring  and  Noble  Church  of  Christ.  Marie  loved  and  had  interest  in  her  hobbies  such  as  working  with  ceramics,  interior  decorating  and  working  in  her  flower  gardens.  She  was  working  in  her  home  decorating  when  she  fell  and  brock  her  hip.

Mrs.  Reed  was  preceded  in  death  by  her  husband,  Charles  Clarence  Reed,  Sr.;  her  parents,  Calvert  Penn  and  Perlie  Lorene  Johnson  Griggs;  three  brothers,  Ernie  Plaught,  Erick  Earrol,  Sr.,  and  George  Edward  Griggs;  Two  sisters,  Valeria  Maryrene  and  Claris  Faye  Griggs.

She  is  survived  by  her  son,  Charles  “Rance”  Clarence  Reed,  Jr.;  one  sister  Fosteene  EvaJean  Griggs,  both  of  Rock  Spring;  twelve  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Her  family  wishes  to  acknowledge  with  appreciative  thanks  for  the  loving  care  given  Marie  by  her  long  time  attending  physician  Dr.  Richard  C.  Smith  of  LaFayette,  the  North  Georgia  Home  Health  Agency;  Amedisys,  and   Home  Hospice;  Solamore,  all  in  LaFayette.  Also  want  to  recognize  her  faithful  Christian  Caregiver  Mary  Pat  Hunt  of  Chickamauga.

Funeral  from  the  Wallis  Memorial  Chapel  Tuesday  at  2:00  P.M.  with  the    minister  of  The  Noble  Church  of  Christ;    Jack  Byars  officiating.

Interment  in  the  LaFayette  Memory  Gardens.

MRS.  MARTHA  LANIER  THOMPSON  moved  to  Heaven  March  20,  2013.

She  was  a  member  of  Second  Baptist  Church  of  LaFayette.

Employed  at  Roper  for  many  years.

Preceded  in  death  parents  Wilford  and  Ruth  Lanier,  sister  Ann  Gamble  and  brother  Carl  Lanier.

Survived  by  loving  husband  Charles  Thompson,  LaFayette,  daughter  Delaine  (Charles)  Townsend,  Cleveland,  brother  Richard  Lanier,  LaFayette,  three  grandchildren,  five  great  grandchildren,  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

GAIL  HEADRICK,  age,  66,  of  Chickamauga  died  Tuesday,  March 19, 2013.

Gail  worked  for  30  plus  years  as  a  tax  consultant  with  the  H  and  R  Block  in  Ringgold  and  Trenton.

Preceded  in  death  by  her  husband,  Robert  Headrick;  parents  David  Whitaker  and  Lorene  Moore;  son,  Randy  Bailey;   grandson,  Josh  Nasworthy;  sister,  Sheila  Whitaker;  brother,  Terry  Whitaker.

Survived  by  daughters,  Angela  (Brad)  Patterson,  of  Chattanooga,  Tammy  Young, and  Candy  Nasworthy,  both  of  Chickamauga;  sons,  Anthony  Headrick,  of  Crandall,  Ga.,  and  Shane  Hegwood,  of  Chickamauga;  sisters,  Beverly  Maxwell, of Arab, AL.,  and  Connie  Williams,  of  Rossville  and  Barbara  Ann  Whitaker;  eight  grandchildren,  three  great  grandchildren,  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Survived  by  loving  wife  of  67  years ,  Margaret  Bagley;  daughter,  Gloria  (John)  Trammell,  of  Chatsworth,  and  Eunice  (David)  Lindsay,  of  Cohutta;  sisters,  Dorothy  Turner,  of  Duluth,  and  Flora  Wessling,  of  San Antonio,  TX.;  brothers,  Joe  (Judy)  Bagley,  of  LaFayette,  and  J.D.  (Ruth)  Bagley,  of  Covington;  grandchildren,  Jonathan  (Melanie)  Trammell,  Rebecca  Trammell,  Jill  (Jimmy)  Manley;  three  great  grandchildren;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Survived  by  daughter,  Angie  Woodard  Smith,  and  husband  David,  of  LaFayette;  son,  Kevin  Woodard  and  wife  Charity,  of  Ringgold;  sisters,  Ann  Woodard  Wallin,  and  Sheila  Woodard,  both  of  LaFayette;  grandchildren,  Cody  Mitchell,  Terry  S.  Woodard,  Bryson  Smith,  and  Drew  Woodard;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

MRS.  MAGDALENE  BRIDGES  PATTERSON,  age,  91,  of  LaFayette  died  Wednesday,  March 06, 2013.

Magdalene  was  a  longtime  member  of  The  Second  Baptist  Church.

Preceded  in  death  by  husband,  Howard  Patterson, Sr.;  son,  Howard  Lee  Patterson,  Jr.;  grandsons,  Todd  Benjamin  Patterson,  and  Thomas  David  Cochran;  parents,  Charles  Homer  and  Bessie  Gardner  Bridges;  sister,  Myrtle  Burgess;  and  brother,  Douglas  Bridges.

Survived  by  daughters,  Lana  Patterson  Oaks,  of  Atlanta,  and  Sherry  Patterson  Henderson,  of  LaFayette;  sister,  Mildred  Mitchell,  of  LaFayette;  seven  grandchildren,  thirteen  great  grandchildren,  four  great-great  grandchildren;  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.

Graveside  service  Friday  at  4:00  P.M.  in  the  LaFayette  Memory  Gardens.  Service  conducted  by  Rev.  Mike  Petterson.

MRS.  SIDNEY  FLORACE  WEST  RAMEY,  age,  87,  of  Rock  Spring  died  Tuesday,  March 05, 2013.

Preceded  in  death  by  husband,  Lester  “Bud”  Ramey;  parents,  Joseph  and  Mattie   West;  daughter,  Tammy  Ramey;   grandchild,  Sandy   Keith;  three  sisters;  and  eleven  brothers.

Survived  by  daughter,  Linda  Gail  Mitchell  and  husband  Larry;  sons  Marty  Ramey  and  wife  Stephanie,  all  of  Rock  Spring,  and  Roy  Lee  Ramey  and  wife  Peggy,  of  Vass,  N.C.;  sister,  Edna  Richardson,  of  LaFayette;  ten  grandchildren,  twelve   great  grandchildren,  seven  great-great  grandchildren,  several  nieces  and  nephews  also  survive.  The  family  would  like  to  give  a  special  thanks  to  United  Hospice  of  Calhoun.
